Elizabethton wins two over East

Junior Kayla Marosites eclipsed 1,000 points in her career on Monday night as the Lady Cyclones remained undefeated with a 74-38 over Sullivan East. In the boys’ game, Elizabethton captured a 52-46 victory over the Patriots.

Marosites and the Lady Cyclones jumped out early as they ran out to a 20-5 lead after a quarter of play, and took a 37-13 lead into the locker room at the half after outscoring the Patriots 17-8 in the second. The Elizabethton defense continued to keep the Lady Patriots at bay to secure the victory in the second half.

Kelci Marosites had a game-high 23 points, while Ka. Marosites finished with 17 points, including her 1,000th career point. Sarah Robinson along with Haley Burleson recorded eight points each.

In the boys’ game, it was a hardnosed battle from the opening tip. The Patriots held a slim 9-6 advantage after a quarter of play, and then maintained a 20-16 lead at the half. In the second half, the Cyclones outscored Sullivan East 19-6 to pull ahead entering the final stanza.

The key moment in the game occurred with 27.9 seconds on the clock as a technical was called on Sullivan East while trailing 45-44. From there, the Cyclones iced the victory from the free throw line.

Tyler Nichols had 22 points to pace Elizabethton, while Austin Cornett finished with 10 points.
