Conor Jones called game for Hampton.

Jones drained the game-winner with four seconds remaining in overtime as the Bulldogs held on for a 53-51 win at Sullivan North on Tuesday. In the girls’ game, Hampton pulled away for a 58-38 win.

In the boys’ game, Hampton got a quick start.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter. Sullivan North, however, got things going in the second as they shaved three points off the HHS lead going into the half.

In third quarter, the Raiders continued to have the hot hand as they outscored Hampton 18-8 in the quarter to close within one point. Neither team was able to get any separation as points were hard to come by in the final eight minutes.

HHS was forced to rally as they erased a five-point deficit to force the extra period. After North scored first in the extra four minutes, Hampton evened the score setting the stage for the thrilling finish.

Morgan Lyons had 14 points to pace Hampton. Caleb Oaks scored 10 points, while Jones ended the game with nine points.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out early and never looked back.

Hampton raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. After North had trimmed the advantage to 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, Hampton pushed the lead back to 20-7 before another North run closed the gap back to nine points at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs took control once and for all in the third quarter as they scored 11 of the first 13 points to open the third quarter as they were able to get some breathing room over the shorthanded Lady Raiders squad.

Hazen Brumitt led Hampton with 17 points. Nicole Guy and Sara Orr had eight and six points, respectively.
