The National Football Foundation Mountain Empire Chapter’s Hall of Fame Grand Opening and Induction had a unique Carter County flair on Saturday morning.

The NFF Mountain Empire Chapter opened their new Hall of Fame at MeadowView Convention Center in Kingsport on Saturday.

As part of the ceremony, previous inductees to the Hall of Fame were honored and received their medallions.

Elizabethton Head Coach Shawn Witten represented his family as grandfather Dave Rider and brother Jason Witten received their permanent enshrinement, while former Cloudland and Hampton Head Coach Mike Lunsford was also honored.

2021 NFF Scholar-Athlete Eli Preswood from Cloudland was joined by Jerry Lunsford (Hampton), Phillip Garland (Happy Valley), and Austin Hicks (Happy Valley) as NFF Scholar-Athletes winners honored on Saturday.

Elizabethton’s Johnny Mills also was honored for his his career as an all-state player for the Cyclones and the University of Tennessee.

Hampton’s JC Campbell was also honored, but was unable to attend Saturday’s ceremony.
