Volunteer 62, Elizabethton 58
The Cyclones nearly erased an early deficit but was unable to pick up a road win on Tuesday.
Elizabethton saw Volunteer race out to a 17-9 lead after a quarter of play and extended the advantage to 33-23 at the half.
The Cyclones, however, battled back with a run to pull within a point of the Falcons in the third quarter, but Volunteer answered with a run of their own.
Elizabethton continued to battle in the final minutes but was unable to get back in front.
Seth Carter had 19 points to lead the Cyclones, while Jake Roberts had 16 points. Nicholas Wilson added 11 points.
Hampton 83, Unicoi County 74
The Bulldogs methodically pulled away and then held off a late Unicoi charge for the win.
After holding a 24-20 lead after a quarter of play, Hampton pushed the lead to 10 points before the half.
From there, Hampton pushed the lead out to 16 points before a quick Unicoi run cut the advantage to single digits in the closing minutes.
Hampton, however, stopped the rally to secure the win.
Logan Whitehead led the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Morgan Lyons had 17 points. Hayden Campbell and Cadon Buckles tallied 16 and 13 points, respectively.
West Greene 66, Happy Valley 47
Happy Valley was unable to overcome an early deficit on the road Tuesday night.
The Buffaloes jumped out early and then prevented an HV rally to take a District win.
Landon Babb led the Warriors with 20 points. Colby Chausee had 11 points, while James Murray tossed in eight points.
University High 64, Unaka 53
Unaka battled back but was unable to overcome an early deficit.
UH held the Rangers to just three points in the first eight minutes. However, Unaka continued to battle to stay within striking distance of the Bucs.
Joseph Slagle had 11 points to lead Unaka. Joe-Z Blamo had 10 points.
North Greene 85, Cloudland 40
The ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with a hot offensive attack.
North Greene jumped out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter to take full control. Cloudland continued to battle but was unable to cut into the NG lead before half.
Dylan Shell had 14 points to lead Cloudland. Dylan Street scored eight points, while Dylan McClellan had five points.
Girls
Elizabethton 49, Volunteer 44
The Lady Cyclones held off a furious Lady Falcon rally to take a big district road win.
EHS jumped out to a 16-5 lead after a quarter of play and maintained a 26-15 lead at the break.
After Volunteer closed the gap to six points, some timely shots secured the win in the final quarter.
Lina Lyon had 17 points to pace the Lady Cyclones. Olivia Holly had 10 points. Renna Lane tossed in nine points.
Unaka 63, University High 26
The Lady Rangers hit the gas early and never looked back.
Unaka jumped out to a 17-2 lead and pushed the advantage to 39-13 at the half.
Lyndie Ramsey had 26 points to lead the way for the Lady Rangers. Tara Whitehead added nine points, while Julie Simerly tossed in eight points.
North Greene 53, Cloudland 40
Cloudland came up short in a road district contest Tuesday night.
The Lady ‘Landers saw NG take a 13-10 lead after a quarter of play after a back-and-forth battle. NG pushed the lead to 12 at the half.
After North Greene outscored Cloudland 16-0 in the third quarter, the Lady ‘Landers nearly repaid the favor by outscoring NG 24-9 in the final quarter. However, CHS was unable to rally past the Lady Huskies.
Ella Benfield, Sahara McKinney, Ryan Turbyfill, Izabella Christman, and Karah Fields each had seven points.
Hampton 64, Unicoi County 57
The Lady Bulldogs outlasted Unicoi for a nonconference win on Tuesday.
After trailing 20-18 after a quarter of play, Hampton took a slim 32-31 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to hold the edge in the second half to secure the win.
Madi McClain finished with 19 points. Macy Henry scored 16 points, while Linsey Jenkins tossed in 14 points.
Taylor Berry finished with eight points.
